MaiPDF · Restriction choices

Do not turn on every restriction by default

Too many controls can break reading flow and hurt conversion. Use three questions to choose settings that match real document goals.

Open-limit and restriction style settings

Three questions for the right bundle

Question 1: Is this for reach or protection?

Marketing docs need low friction. Sensitive business docs need stronger controls.

Reach-first: keep it light Protection-first: continue to Q2

Question 2: Does the recipient need a printable copy?

Some workflows still need print for review or signing.

Needs print: avoid blocking print View-only: tighten print/download

Question 3: Should access expire?

Quotes, tenders, and temporary review links usually need expiry. Evergreen docs often do not.

Time-bound: set expiry/open caps Evergreen: keep access stable
Viewer mode with no print and no download options
Match restrictions to scenario instead of maxing everything.

Common misconfiguration patterns

Mistake 1: Gate a public brochure too hard

Wrong: heavy verification for awareness content.

Better: optional no-download, fast open flow.

Mistake 2: Block print on agreement review

Wrong: recipient cannot run normal approval/signing flow.

Better: keep print available if the business process truly needs it.

Mistake 3: Set expiry on evergreen docs

Wrong: old links die even when docs should remain available.

Better: keep long-term docs stable and replace content under the same link when needed.

Mistake 4: “Max security” on every file

Wrong: user experience drops for normal cases.

Better: reserve strict bundles for high-sensitivity content only.
